lol. Ummm, probably not for a while. I don’t have the time/money to ship Big Bang CDs all over the world. The CDs are heavy and international shipping out of Korea is pretty expensive (usually about 30usd plus the cost of the cd/snacks), plus the time to get out to a post office and stuff.

I hope you guys aren’t all just following me for the giveaways… *sadface* ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Hello~ I am so glad to have found you! In order to teach at universities in Korea, must I get a PhD? After I graduate from community college or get my bachelor's degree do I have to join a TEFL(I think it's this one) program and if so how long does it take? If I major in business instead and come to teach in Korea for a year while searching for a business job then you said English speakers can apply for jobs at American companies in Korea?

English speakers can apply for jobs at any company. Whether you will get a job at a major Korean company is slim as they usually hire young (direct out of university) and Korean.

To teach English at a university you need either a masters or an extensive teaching background (usually a teaching certificate from your home country).

To teach English in a public k-12 school you should have a bachelors degree. You do not need a TEFL certification, but if you have it you can usually get paid more.

Someone I’d Like to be for a day: If I can experience the personality/responsibilities/thoughts of the person along with living their life: my boyfriend, Hoon, because he is under so much stress and I know I don’t help, and I think if I had some empathy about his situation (studying endlessly for the teacher exam with minimal hopes of passing this time around) I think I would deal with it better and have a chance to help him feel better about the situation. If it were just like living the life of someone, but having my own thoughts and stuff, maybe my cat Nova, because his life just seems pretty chill.
Lyrics that apply to my current situation/mood: “I said I’m gonna buy a gun and start a war, if you can tell me something worth fighting for…” (name the artist/song combo for a plus point in my book… it’s easy!)
5 things that irritate me about men (no particular order): 1. dishonesty 2. how little they care about things that don’t immediately involve them 3. how they don’t put the toilet seat down 4. Yesterday at lunch time, some students were playing basketball, and I decided to shoot around (I was wearing pants and toms, so it felt okay). I hit a few shots, and the students swarmed about and the next thing I knew I saw my principal in the background taking pictures of me.

Those pictures are now on the school website along with a very positive description of how hard I work and how much effort I put into my job.

I’m so glad this job is really working out!

In other news, I’ve lost my voice again and am super sick.

Also, I apparently have a nodule on my throat. We had a school health check today (required for some certification or something), and I had to do all the usual stuff like blood and urine test eye check etc, but they also did this like ultrasound of my liver and throat, and my throat turned up that I have one nodule. I guess I should go get that checked out.

Liver’s healthy though. Looks like it’s time for me to go drinkin’!

I’m going to Busan for the first time ever tomorrow!

I get to ride the KTX too, which is exciting. I’ve only been on the KTX twice, for pretty short rides (to Daejeon). Busan is a bit longer (just under three hours!) so that is exciting.

The trip to Busan is just a trip for a frisbee thing, but it’s a tournament on the beach, so I will at least get to see a bit of Busan’s famed beaches. Hopefully I’ll get some pictures or something… lol

In other news, my summer plans got all messed about today, but it’s all good.

Luckily, I found out that I get to go to the Yeosu World Expo in July with my school for FREE. Originally we were going to take the KTX, but it turns out that we are going by bus. It’s gonna take forever. Seriously… ㅠㅠㅠ

It depends on the concert. Some concerts are only released through one site. For example, all YG shows are released only through gmarket…

I like to use Interpark because I think the site is less visually cluttered than gmarket, but interpark is more popular for musicals or like collaboration shows (multiple singers/groups performing together). Both Interpark and Gmarket have English version of their site.

I’m not sure the protocol if you are from the states (except use Internet Explorer) but I think it’s mostly the same.

Call me crazy, but doesn’t top look like some sort of like...

It means “should I poop or not?” (Approx pronunciation guide: ddong ssalka malka) It’s freaking HILARIOUS. Kids just walk around saying should I poop or not to the tune of Boom Shakalaka. I love it so much.

Teacher's Day

Today is Teacher’s Day (스승의날) in Korea. This day, for me has always gone by mostly without notice because usually only the homeroom teachers reap the benefits of sweet gifts and cards from their students. I always got a letter or two, and today is no different really.

Except it was the best Teacher’s Day ever.

Why, you ask?

A few reasons.

A few cute students did special things. A 2nd grader, Jenny, made this little paper origami carnation corsage pin for me, and wrote Thank You Teacher on the back. A first grader brought me a cute card and a starbucks coffee drink. A few third grade boys (probably three of my most difficult to control, including one student who I was pretty sure hated me) wrote me short, but sweet, letters thanking me and saying I’m kind of helpful. The one who I thought hated me wrote “I love you” in his letter. Very sweet.
My school had a literal feast for lunch. We had salad, roast duck, squid, raw veggies, a host of ban-chan (veggie side dishes like kimchi), kimchi/broth noodle soup, tortillas, barbeque chicken, pumpkin and corn soup in a bread bowl (!!!!!!!!!), fresh pinapple and tomatoes, plus rice cakes and traditional 식혜, a sweet rice-based drink!
We finished school at lunch time. I had some extra work to do, so I stuck around until 2:20 or so, but yeah, I got to leave two hours early.

Because I left school early I could finally get to the bank and get a new bank book!
My work computer is (almost completely) fixed. I was having problems with not being able to use itunes (where I had downloaded all the audio cds for our textbooks), google chrome completely crashing, Internet Explorer sucking balls (what else is new), My Cool Messenger (a school messaging service like aim) deleting messages, and my computer losing it’s connection to the t.v. which isn’t so important, but they’re my only speakers. Now I have only the cool messenger problem which is a bit worse in that I can’t log on at all. Inconvenient, yes. But at least I have my audio files back on itunes, and google chrome working again!

All in all, a good teachers day.

Plus, tomorrow I get to see Hoon! Hooray!

i was adopted by a white family in new york and i have been a citizen in the United States for 19 years and have had my education in new york for as long. however i look hispanic/black/white...i'm light skinned though. english is my first language.

Then you should be fine! I would recommend going though a public school program if you are serious about it (EPiK or SMOE are the two big ones), because they tend to discriminate a LOT less.

I turned 25 a couple weeks ago. I’m 26 by Korean age counting standards.

Hey, so i'm 19 and i'm currently a double major in English and Asian Studies with a minor in Linguistics. Right now i'm learning Japanese, but next summer i'm planning on going abroad to South Korea through my school to learn Korean. My question for you is, and i know i have read a lot of information you've already provided, but i just wanted to clarify, as an American, who is Brazilian, would i be able to get a job to teach English in Korea?

What is your citizenship? Where have you been educated for the past 8 years? If the answer to either (or ideally both) of these questions is a native English speaking nation (this means: Ireland, England, South Africa, Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Wales, the end) then yes.

If the answer is no, then probably not.
